In fact, it’s worked so well that the majority of our family is gluten-free. Let’s jump into this review about the Bon Voyage Breakfast with autistic children.
What is the Worst Character Breakfast in Walt Disney World?
We were so excited to check out the character breakfast on Disney’s Boardwalk. However, Disney’s Bon Voyage Breakfast did not live up to our expectations.
Luckily, the characters are entertaining. Also, there are some delicious gluten-free meals. However, it was our worst dining experience at Disney World to date.
Trattoria al Forno: Walt Disney World’s Bon Voyage Breakfast
We arrived early and wandered around the lobby- they do try to sell princess dresses and souvenirs in the lobby. This made the tiny entrance crowded with people and merchandise. The restaurant is gorgeous with an Old Word Italian motif and a wood-burning oven.
Unfortunately, the entryway was loud and overstimulating. Taking our autistic child to the Bon Voyage Breakfast was a bit rough.
To start, you are greeted with a miniature frying pan full of delectable pastries. There were two mini muffins (one tie-dye), a chocolate croissant, a bear claw, and a powder sugar covered pizzelle. Basically, those are all full of gluten, so I am not sure how they tasted.
According to our baby, it was yummy!
If you are gluten-free also, no worries. They had a delectable choice of pastries for those with wheat allergies, as well. The little frying pan had a blueberry scone and chocolate muffin in it. We agreed that they were dense and gratifying.
After the pastries, it was time for a choice between fresh fruit or berry, yogurt, and granola parfait. The fresh fruit is the only gluten-free selection, but luckily, the fruit was ripe and delectable. We were getting stuffed and it was early in the meal.

What is the best gluten-free breakfast at the Bon Voyage Breakfast?
I chose the Italian Scramble, featuring mozzarella and tomato-basil scrambled eggs and Sunday Gravy with roasted potatoes and choice of bacon or sausage. My breakfast was outstanding with crispy bacon, flavorful eggs, and the Sunday Gravy, a complementary marinara-like dipping sauce.
They brought out my food, and oddly enough, his food never arrived with mine. It eventually came out about 15 minutes later and was extremely cold, but our waiter argued that it was fine. It was odd, we’ve never had any issues like that before at Walt Disney World. After a few minutes of him saying it was cold, they agreed to remake it.
My husband had the steak & eggs which consisted of oak-grilled steak, cheesy-egg torte, fonduta, roasted potatoes, and crispy onions. Upon receipt he said it was delicious. The cheesy-egg torte looked amazing and I wanted to duplicate it for home.
Curious about fonduta? It’s basically like fondue- melted cheese, cream, and milk. What’s not to like?
What Disney characters are at the Bon Voyage Breakfast at Trattoria al Forno on the boardwalk?
There were four characters in attendance at our breakfast. The first was Flynn Rider from Tangled. While I wasn’t that big of a fan, our baby was absolutely over the moon to meet him. He was very personable. For sure, we enjoyed how he personified the movie character.
Next came Tangled’s Rapunzel- she was not as entertaining as her counterpart, but lovely nonetheless. However, Zoe was not impressed.
Ariel from The Little Mermaid hung out and played with our baby until she relaxed. We felt fortunate because mermaid kisses were a smash! Maybe the red hair made them best friends, but this was our favorite character interaction of the morning.
Would you go back to the Bon Voyage Breakfast?
While we were super excited about this character experience, I can honestly say it was a somewhat dull dining experience. The Bon Voyage Breakfast’s food isn’t superior and was way too advanced for our child’s taste. Since we are so obsessed with Cape May Cafe on the other side of Crescent Lake, I would rather go there.
We enjoyed so many other Disney restaurants that I doubt we’d return to a restaurant that was just tolerable. But, there’s just so much more to do in the World!
If you follow us, you know that we love everything about travel and Walt Disney World. However, our oldest son has autism and benefits from a gluten-free diet. Our son absolutely does- so it’s important that we find gluten-free options.
