We recently stayed at the Disney Vacation Club Studio at the Polynesian Village Resort. Pulling up to the Polynesian is like entering a lush destination that just screams tropical vacation!
We’ve stayed at many Walt Disney World resorts, but the total immersion into an exotic locale is incredible. There is an abundance of flora and fauna that transport you beyond the reality of a theme park hotel!
You can eat at Ohana or the Kona Cafe for sit-down restaurants. There is also Captain Cook’s quick service and the Pineapple Lanai for Dole Whips.
If you are gluten-free, check out our guide to all of the Disney World restaurants.
Pago Pago
We stayed in the Pago Pago building, which is close to the Ticket and Transportation Center (TTC). The newer Polynesian Tower is clear on the other side of the resort, so these original longhouses get this perk.

If the torches resonate with you, each evening the Polynesian Village Resort hosts a torch lighting ceremony at 6 pm. It’s our family’s absolute favorite way to celebrate a successful Disney day and send us off to a family dinner.
The DVC Studio Layout at Polynesian (Legacy Longhouse)
Pago Pago is a building at the Polynesian Village Resort that is part of the original OG Disney Vacation Club (DVC) suites. Pago Pago is much quieter and more secluded than the Great Ceremonial House; the cozy lobby area is vibrant with framed maps and Pago Pago art.

Our studio in Pago Pago featured the classic layout: a Queen bed, a fold-out sofa, and the fan-favorite twin Murphy bed hidden under the TV—perfect for a fifth guest. Looking for extra sleeping space for a child?

These “original” DVC rooms are widely considered the largest studios on Disney property, as compared to the newer Tower rooms.

Travel Must-Haves for Little Adventurers
Travel Car Seat – Not FAA approved, but safe as a booster in your Uber
Noise-Canceling Headphones – Soothing quiet for little ears
Kid-Proof Tablet Case – Drop-tested and travel ready
Fidget Toy Set – Pocket-sized fun for long layovers
Weighted Lap Pad – Like a calming hug on cars and planes
There is a kitchenette, complete with a microwave, coffee maker, toaster, mini refrigerator, and plates, bowls, silverware, and glasses.

Bathroom #1 is absolutely gorgeous, with a full sink.
The split-bathroom design is a lifesaver for families. While the iconic H2O+ branding has retired, Disney now offers its own private-label versions of the sea salt body wash and shampoo. It’s the same “vacation smell” we love, just in new, unbranded refillable bottles.

The shower is huge and has a stone seat. Smooth natural rock adorns the shower floor. The drain was a modern touch.

Also, the best part? A full bathroom #2 that features a full tub, toilet, and sink.

The room features plenty of storage. Also, these gorgeous closet doors shield a play yard and a high chair stored away.

As always, Walt Disney World aims to impress with every detail. This Polynesian-style bedside lamp was a unique decor design. We saw the Polynesian Resort lamp was available at the gift shop for the low price tag of $299!

For me, the only drawback was the view. While the balcony is luxurious and lush, it overlooks a not-so-fabulous parking lot!
Important: Safety & Elopement
If your family member is at risk for eloping or going on high balconies, please keep that in mind when booking a room or requesting a floor. The sliding doors lead to private balconies, and while they have standard locks, they might not be enough for a determined explorer.
I’d highly recommend bringing your own door alarm and asking the front desk if they have a slider lock. If you’re worried about heights, request a ground-floor unit at check-in to avoid a high balcony.
To keep everyone safe inside, I recommend a two-layer approach: a physical barrier they can’t reach and an audible alarm if they try.
- The Addalock Portable Door Lock: This is a powerhouse for the front door. It physically prevents the door from opening even if the deadbolt is turned from the inside. It takes seconds to install and fits in your pocket.
- Door Guardian (Stick-On Version): This is the one for inward-swinging doors. It uses high-strength 3M adhesive, so you don’t have to drill into the resort’s door. It sits at the very top of the frame, completely out of reach.
- GE Personal Security Window/Door Alarms: These are your “Early Warning” system. These 120dB magnetic sensors trigger a loud siren the moment the door or sliding patio glass is opened, even an inch.
- Securityman 2-in-1 Security Bar: While it can jam a front door, it’s the best way to secure a sliding patio door. You lay it in the track, and the door physically cannot slide open from either side.

Be aware that there is a paid laundry building by the bus stop. A little bonus for those with DVC?
Minimalist Tip: If you’re staying on DVC points, head over to the Moorea building. The laundry facilities there are free for DVC guests, saving you both time and those extra quarters.
The Island Ambience of the Poly
The ambiance of the Polynesian Village Resort is magical. We relished taking an evening stroll, with the palm trees rustling and sparkling torches lining the path. Everywhere you look, beautiful vegetation and flowers dance in the night’s wind. This resort is so peaceful.
