Gluten-free at Disney’s Kona Cafe
Walt Disney World is the least daunting place on earth to ask for special diet accommodations. If you are looking to eat gluten-free at Kona Cafe, then you are in the right place! We delighted in our dining experience from the first sip to the last bite.
Starting with the cocktails menu, we took a break from the heat and madness of the parks to sip. First, this margarita is both refreshing and gluten-free. My only complaint is that it tasted cheaply made from either a store or batch mix. We’ve sipped our first taste of relaxation. Therefore it is time to get to the dinner menu.

Gluten-free at Kona Cafe
Next, entrees at the Kona Cafe are usually fresh and delicious. I craved a veggie filled dish all day and wound up selecting the Chicken Asian Stir Fry with Rice Noodles in a Soy-Yuzu Sauce. The snap peas added a refreshing texture and flavor to the dish that was light but filling.
Altogether, I really enjoyed it at the end of a long, hot day at the theme parks. But, it did not reheat well- it was a mushy mess. Don’t bother taking it with you if you can’t finish it in one sitting.
My husband enjoyed the Miso-buttered Strip Loin, a thick cut of steak that they recommend served medium rare. Similarly, if you opt for a well-done steak, the chef can butterfly for a quicker finish. But beware, it will change the taste.
The steak was flavorful, and the mash complemented the meat nicely. The vegetables were a tantalizingly sweet addition to this meal’s flavor profile.
Due to the fact that our daughter can eat gluten, here is a gratuitous photograph of the gluten-filled crab cakes. However, they are gluten-hungry baby approved!
She adores Minnie Mouse, so we dress her in it daily. If those red curls are an indication of her future hair, I can’t wait to see our Merida style warrior grow up.
Final Thoughts on Gluten-free Dining at Kona Cafe
Indeed, we enjoyed eating gluten-free at the Kona Cafe. We were thrilled to get a last-minute reservation. Luckily, Kona Cafe always seems reasonably easy to get a reservation for at the last minute. Although that has changed in recent years. If all else fails, get a Dole Whip at Pineapple Lanai. Finally, stay tuned as we review and discuss our lavish stay at the Polynesian Village Resort.
